FirstCase Academy by SurgSoul

Study surgical preference cards before your next case.

Keep case preparation organized by surgeon and procedure. FirstCase Academy keeps setup, instruments, draping order and case flow on one card for surgical technologists and preceptors, with your own self-rated level on each case.

Keep the details of a case together

A case card brings together setup, draping order, instruments, case flow, closing, and the preferences that matter to your team. Organize cards by specialty, surgeon, and procedure so students can find the case they are preparing to scrub.

The library is maintained by the people using it. Treat every study card as a training reference and check it against the current facility-approved preference card before a case.

Turn preparation into practice

  1. Find the surgeon and procedure for the case you are studying.
  2. Review the setup and instrument requirements with your preceptor.
  3. Rehearse the draping order and case flow on the card until you can say them in sequence.
  4. After the case, discuss what differed and update the training reference when appropriate.

Support learning across a team

Preceptors can maintain a shared library for their program while learners practice the same sequences. Case proficiency records help structure a conversation about what a learner has reviewed and what still needs supervised practice.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace the hospital’s preference-card system?

No. These are study and training tools. Your facility’s approved records, policies, and the surgeon’s current preferences remain the source of truth.

Can we keep our own cards?

Yes. A program keeps its own card library, maintained by its educators and preceptors, and a personal account can add its own surgeons and cards. The surgeon’s actual preference card and facility policy always win.

Who is it for?

Surgical technology students, working surgical technologists, preceptors, and training programs. New users can request individual or program access.
