Prepare for clinicals, the CST exam, and your first year in the OR.

Surgical technology students study, prepare cases and practice for the exam in one app. The programs teaching them keep case logs, preceptor sign-off and signed faculty evaluations in the same place.

For schools and programs

Clinical records your faculty can stand behind

Case logs counted against AST's 120-case rules, preceptor sign-off on the student's phone, and faculty evaluations signed and dated by the instructor and the student, kept for at least five years. Students get the full study app in the same account.

Founding programs. The first 10 schools and training programs get the School / Program plan at no charge through June 30, 2027, in exchange for feedback during the year and written permission to quote the program. Nothing renews automatically.

Built around how the job is actually learned

Not a video course and not a question bank bolted to a login. The parts below are the ones students use on the day before a case.

Preference cards

Setup, draping order, instruments, case flow, closing and the quirks — per surgeon, per procedure, maintained by the people who scrub it.

A plan that counts down to your exam

Enter your exam date and get a daily number of questions that reaches every one before test day, with the last week kept for mock exams and the ones you missed.

Board prep

Practice untimed with a rationale after every question, sit a timed mock scored by domain, or drill only what you have been missing.

Track your own progress

Rate yourself on each case — not started, reviewed, drills clean, scrubbed with help, solo-ready — and see what to practice next. It is your self-assessment; your program's evaluations and your facility decide what you're cleared to do.

Works with no signal

Install it to the home screen and your flashcards and practice questions keep working in a basement OR corridor. Answers sync when you're back online.

Private by default

Personal notes and anything you write stay yours. Programs see progress, never someone's notebook.

For students

Study the case you are scrubbing tomorrow

Everything you learn is yours and follows you between devices — and if your program later subscribes, your progress comes with you.

  • Fifteen ready-made starter cards for common first cases, from lap chole to C-section, including an orthopedic and trauma set
  • Fundamentals, flashcards and scenario questions
  • Board-style practice with rationales
  • Your own private notes and cards

For programs

See where learners need practice

One board covering self-assessed case progress, flashcards, quizzes and board prep — filterable by cohort, recorded per account so it survives a device change.

  • Your own card library, maintained by your preceptors
  • Clinical case logs and site attendance, reviewed by your instructors
  • Cohorts, roster management and an audit trail
  • Learning records stay with your program across terms

For schools and programs

Clinical case logs and attendance, reviewed by your instructors

Students log clinical cases and check in at their assigned sites from a phone. Instructors review it all in one place, and the dashboard counts approved cases toward the surgical case requirement your program tracks.

A case journal toward 120 cases

Students record the date, surgeon, procedure, specialty and scrub role, then submit for review. Approved cases count toward the 120-case requirement in AST's Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology (7th edition), including its first-scrub minimums.

Attendance at assigned sites

Check in and out on server time at the sites you set up. Location is checked only at each punch, against the site's boundary, and raw coordinates are not kept. A reading outside the boundary goes to an instructor instead of being rejected.

One review queue

Approve, return with comments, reclassify or void, with a reason. Every revision is kept and approval freezes the record. Instructors see pending cases, location exceptions and unresolved attendance at a glance.

Print and export

A printable progress report and a CSV export use the same count as the dashboard, so the numbers match the conversation you have with each student.

Preceptor sign-off and signed evaluations

At the end of a shift the student hands their phone to the preceptor, who confirms each case and signs. No preceptor accounts or emails. The preceptor's evaluation is signed the same way; faculty evaluations are signed and dated by the instructor and then the student; and the program director signs the final verification of case counts. Students also rate their sites. See how it compares.

Cohort progressMeasured study activity next to clearly labeled self-rated case levels.

Screens show a demo workspace; the students, sites and records are fictional.

Included with the School / Program plan and the Paid Program Pilot. Case counts are records for your program to verify, not a certification of competence, and a location reading supports an attendance record rather than proving presence. FirstCase Academy is independent of AST, ARC/STSA and NBSTSA.

For hospitals and surgery centers

Onboard new surgical techs on your own cases

New graduates and travelers arrive knowing instruments in general, not your surgeons' setups. Put your preference cards in one place, give each new hire a structured first eight weeks, and see who is ready for which room.

  • Your surgeons' preference cards, kept current by the techs who scrub them
  • Competency checklists and a preceptor guide for an eight-week orientation
  • Case logs, shift sign-offs and evaluations signed on the floor
  • One board for every new hire's progress, by cohort or unit

Hospitals use the School / Program plan, sized by the number of new hires, or the eight-week paid pilot.

Covered by your school? Enrolled learners in a subscribing program do not need a separate individual purchase.

Access guarantee. Bought a Six-Month Study Pass or Individual Annual, saved your CST date in Academy at least 14 days ahead, and didn't pass? Claim 3 more months of access in the app within 30 days of the exam, once. It extends access; it is not a refund or a promise about any result.

Clear access periods. The Six-Month Study Pass runs for six calendar months from activation; it is not tied to a school semester. Paid access ends on the confirmed date. Your existing records remain available to review; paid practice and editing resume after renewal.

Program seats. A School / Program plan is sized to your cohort: 10 learners are included and you can choose up to 500, at $60 per learner beyond the first 10. Educators get their own allowance of one per six learners, at least two. Seats count active enrolled accounts, not monthly logins. Deactivate departing learners at cohort transitions before assigning their seats to new learners; records are retained in the program. Learners added mid-term are $60 each for the remaining agreement term, without proration.

Setup and support. Standard email support is included. Large imports, custom content, integrations, and additional training are quoted separately. The pilot fee is credited once toward the same program's first annual agreement. All prices are in USD; any applicable tax is shown before payment.

Founding programs. The first 10 schools and training programs get the School / Program plan at no charge through June 30, 2027, in exchange for feedback during the year and written permission to quote the program. List prices are unchanged, nothing renews automatically, and afterwards a program can buy a year or stop, with its records kept readable. Apply for a founding place.

Refunds. Not satisfied? Email admin@surgsoul.com within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. See the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
